You Tube Advertising

You might be surprised by the demographics of who watches You Tube. According to Nielsen they state that nearly 55 percent of YouTube’s U.S. visitors in May 2006 were ages 35 to 64, with an additional 19 percent in the 25- to-34 bracket. Most of the viewers are older white males that are highly educated with a high income bracket. Advertising on You Tube was not taken seriously a few years ago, but now it is becoming a viable media outlet, as You Tube has grown by popularity being used in conjunction with CNN at the primaries. For businesses wanting to advertise and save advertising dollars in this depressed market, You Tube offers an alternative to expensive television advertising. Even though the economy is in a tailspin right now, as a business trying to reach out to your customers, the last thing you want to do is cut your advertising budget. You can still get your message out to your customers with an effective You Tube advertising campaign. Our company VS Video Productions based in Denver has been in the video advertising business for 18 years. We can be reached at the information below.

How to get a job in Video Production

This article addresses some tips on what you need to do in order to get hired for video production jobs.I decided to write this blog because of the many inquiries that we get for video production jobs.If you are just getting out of college with no experience don’t expect any production company to let you start shooting their clients projects. The way to get experience in this field is to do internships to gain experience and this should be done during your last two years of college. After college don’t expect to make lot’s of money, our industry doesn’t pay lot’s of money. Ask the employer if they can give you a trial run for free. Prove to them that you can do the job. You will probably start out as a production assistant or a video tape logger. If you can prove yourself doing some of the lower end jobs, eventually you will move up. Have a great attitude and be willing to go with the flow.   The most importatnt  tip to get hired as a videographer or video editor is make sure you have video samples available preferably online that an employer can see your work instantly. Our industry is a visual medium, resumes do not cut it in our industry. Take advantage of the free uploads on You Tube, Google and Aol. I just recently hired an individual in a matter of a few minutes because he had a video sample on Youtube. If you are compiling a demo tape, make sure you stand out from the rest. Create something that will catch the viewer eye in a matter of a few seconds. Create a compelling story with your videos, don’t just point and shoot, anyone can do that. In order to get a job with my company or other video production companies,  is show us what you can do don’t tell us. We will offer more tips on how to get a job in the video industry soon.

Advertisers on Craigslist

I am writing this because I am pretty disgusted at the ads I see for video production personnel on Craigslist. However it is truly buyer beware on Craigslist. I have hired some good people but have also had some really bad ones. You really have to check these people out if you are going to use them on your crew. This blog does not put blame on  Craigslist but condemns the advertisers that place ads on Craigslist to hire video professionals in our industry.I don’t know If I should laugh or cry when I see some of these posted ads by advertisers, that want to pay $250 for a two day shoot or an ad I saw for an HD shooter for $125 per day. Most of the pro guys don’t use Craigslist because they have established clients, but even for the guy that is just starting out or even with someone with some experience this pay scale is outrageous. The main point to this is that by these advertisers wanting to pay third world wages in our industry it devalues our business. Video Production must have a standard, that is what diffirentiates us from uncle Harry with his camcorder and his $50 editing software he purchased online. I truly hope that no one is that desperate to take these jobs at these rates and shame on these advertisers that actually think someone is going to give them a quality product at these rates. We are not in the fast food industry and don’t let us become that. Let them know what the industry standard is which is usually $75 per hour and up. Most of us have college degrees, we have also invested thousands of dollars in equipment and provide our clients with superior productions. Stand up for yourself and the industry and let them know that. I am hoping that Craigslist actually starts charging advertisers to post jobs and eliminates the free ads, as this will hopefully filter out those advertisers that are looking for cheap labor. I hope these advertisers get to read this and don’t treat our industry like the fast food industry, beacuse we are not.

How to hire a videographer

Many individuals ask why should I pay for a pro video when myself or friends and family can tape it with our camcorders ? Even with access to prosumer camcorders today, most friends and family don’t have the training and or experience as well as the professional broadcast equipment of a professional videographer. We have made the investment of purchasing state of the art broadcast quality cameras and editing systems that most of the public cannot afford to invest in. Professional video production companies also have other equipment that most consumers don’t have such as camera cranes, dolly systems, multiple cameras, professional audio microphones, and most of us have college degrees and years of training at broadcast stations and cable networks. If you are a company that wants to promote your image to consumers investing in a professional video presentation will make your company look professional which is very important if you are trying to maintain a good image and sell your products to consumers. If you are an individual and have an important event to capture such as a wedding or special event that you want to keep for a long time, then it is smart to hire a professional videographer that has the skills and the ability to make the production look professional. The best way to come to a decision about hiring a professional videographer is not by price alone. Meet with the video production company and discuss what your needs are. A price quote alone can result in hiring an individual or company that may not live up to your expectations. Make sure to ask to see a completed video production. Demo tapes only highlight the best video clips they have compiled. For technical specifications you should look for video that is stable shot mostly with a tripod. Why pay someone to do a video for you when the shots are shaky out of focus and you can’t hear the sound. Make sure the videographer uses multiple audio microphones to capture every person that speaks. Look for quality of the video, make sure it is color corrected and is not over saturated or completely dark. All these qualities are important when hiring a competent videographer. We will offer more tips and techniques in our upcoming blogs.

Video Production News

Technology is amazing as companies constantly give us new gadgets to listen to music and watch videos. High Definition is the revolution of video technology. Soon television stations around the country will be required to carry the high definition signal to all homes in the United States.  Many individuals want to keep what they have and not change because of the money they have already invested in their current equipment. However I urge you to take a look at what high definition offers. It is amazing and as an owner of a video production company we want to warn those out there what true high definition is and what it is not. As a video production company in Denver, we constantly have to strive to keep up with technology and we make huge purchases to do that. Some video production companies tell their clients that they have high definition when in fact it is not.

It is called HDV which is not true High Definition it runs on different codecs and to make it simple this is not true high definition. When calling on a video production company ask them if they use HDV cameras or have HD cameras this will make a big difference. Please feel free to contact us to inquire about what we can offer you. Our company name is VS VIDEO PRODUCTIONS our website is www.vsvideoproductions.com or e-mail us at victor@vsvideoproductions.com
